Music is an incredible thing. Think about it for a minute–you get to hear not only fabulous sound, but meaningful words. Music appeals to your heart and your mind. It’s there for you in the ups and downs, the times of struggle and bliss, everything you’re feeling and experiencing is out there somewhere in a song. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty magical.
Now, I enjoy a lot of music. I have a wide range on my computer–from the Beatles to Rascal Flatts, Elvis Presley and Bon Jovi. But for the past months of my life, I’ve had a clear favorite–I’ve even written about them before on here. Meg & Dia is an incredible band formed by two sisters. I obviously can’t say that I know them personally, but I can say that I have more of an interest in them than any other artist I’ve ever listened to. They seem like genuinely good people. They have yet to let the experience of touring (they first toured as Meg & Dia, and now Dia is opening for Blake Shelton as Dia Frampton) corrupt the good things about them. I like that. Their music feels like home to me. I know that sounds kind of odd, but when I’ve had a bad day I know I can allow the music to wash through my mind, to my heart. I can let the words soothe and the rhythm relax the frustrations the day held. And, when I’ve had a good day I can rock out to their music. I can dance around the room, singing like a fool, embarrassed when my roommate walks in on me.

Dia, obviously, is getting her name out in the country world with Blake Shelton–but don’t write off the music just because it’s associated with country music. Her new album RED has some really good songs on it. Don’t believe me? Well, I like Don’t Kick The Chair which has Kid Cudi and Isabella. But by all means, explore the songs. They’re not your average country tunes. And if you want a little about the meaning behind the songs, I recommend you visit Dia’s blog, where she explains. Meg also has a blog and she gives a pretty accurate account of the tour she and Dia are involved in, as well as some other general insights.
Now, obviously I’m not saying you have to like Meg & Dia. This was just an excellent opportunity for me to share how much I really adore their music. I’m sure we all have some different tastes, and I’m okay with that! I like most music, so if you have any suggestions, feel free.
