Love out Loud

When we first started dating
I was afraid.
Afraid of people seeing, knowing,
acting on their misguided morality.
It’s not easy to come to terms
with every glance too-long held
being a threat to your safety.

But now, my dear,
I hold your hand.
I would rather die loving you out loud
than live forever ashamed, hiding,
afraid.
