The tree

I was in a car going nowhere fast
when I fell in love with a tree.
It stood in the middle of the woods,
surrounded by younger, stronger trees.
And yet, there it stood, tall
and wide, stretching its arms
outward and upward,
hugging the sky and the trees,
sharing its love and its wisdom.
In a single moment,
I knew the tree was special.
I wanted nothing more than
to curl up at its roots,
climb in its branches,
hug its strong, thick center.
And then, as soon as I saw it,
it was gone.
