Coming out

is loving yourself.
Knowing that hatred is both born and bred,
puzzling your way through being something you’ve believed you’re not.
It is not only a process of self-discovery, but a test of strength.
To take adversity and give it a home in your heart,
and to smile all the while.
Pride follows, beginning with a glance in the mirror and a swell of the heart
that assures, we are the best we can be.
A promise to take the rough road, if need be,
to take a world’s weight upon our shoulders and to love anyway,
because once you take the time to know yourself, to love yourself,
you can’t keep the love inside you.
It spreads.
